Luveni to be speaker of Fijian parliament


Suva, Sep 24 (IANS): Jiko Luveni, former minister for women and social welfare, will be the speaker of the Fijian parliament, a media report said.

Her appointment as the speaker has been confirmed by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, fijilive.com reported.

"She will be our speaker," Bainimarama said.

Leader of the coup in 2006, Voreqe Bainimarama won the parliamentary elections held last week in Fiji, home to a large Indian-origin population.
