Jealous woman arrested for killing nephew in Gurgaon

Gurgaon, Sep 26 (IANS): A woman was arrested here Friday for killing her six-year-old nephew, police said, adding she committed the crime because her in-laws were pampering the child over her own son.

Sahil from Nangal Mundi village in Rewari district of Haryana was staying for a week at his maternal uncle Manish's house in Chandla Dungarwas village, 32 km from here.

Neetu, 22, arrested for killing the child, confessed to the police that she was jealous because her in-laws were showering love and paying too much attention to Sahil and neglecting her eight-month-old son.

Neetu and Manish who works in a private company tied the knot two years back.

Wednesday, Sahil, Neetu and her five-year-old niece (daughter of another sister-in-law) were at home while the other family members had left for work.

During initial inquiries, Neetu had said that "an unidentified man had come to the house and sprayed some substance, following which I fell unconscious. When I came to my senses, I found the boy strangulated."

However, her medical examination revealed she was not drugged. It was then that the police began doubting her statements and activities.

Friday, following sustained interrogation, she confessed to her crime, saying: "I don't know what happened to me but I did it".

Police officer Shailender Singh told IANS: "Neetu sent the niece to a shop to buy chocolates and strangled Sahil with a sofa cover."

"She was presented in the court of judicial magistrate Nidhi Solanki and sent to jail for 14 days," the officer said.
