New Delhi, Sep 27 (IANS): Two hundred and fifty students from across the country will debate government acts including the Lokpal Act, and propose amendments to these over two days in a mock parliament that began here Saturday.

The central government's acts on food security, foreign direct investment in retail and other policies will be discussed in the simulation of parliament called - India's Model Youth Parliament.

"This is a platform for Indian youth to channelize their energy," Supriya Sharma, convener of the youth parliament said.

She said that this activity will be expanded with the aim to bring students from 543 parliamentary constituencies and discuss government policies.

"We aim to arrive at a consensus and then propose amendments to the acts. We will take our suggestions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi," she added.

Political leaders and union ministers including AAP leader Manish Sisodia, Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani and Law and Justice Minster Ravi Shankar Prasad will meet the students.

The event is being organised by the NGO Developing Inclusive Alternatives.
