Curfew to be Extended – Union Minister Prakash Jaiswal in City

Oct 9: Will this trouble ever end? is the question in everybody’s mind. All was well when curfew was lifted but violence at Bunder played spoilsport.

The deputy commissioner Maheshwar Rao has informed that curfew will be extended till Tuesday.Host of ministers and several political leaders have camped in Mangalore.

 

Karnataka Home minister M P Prakash who visited the people injured in the riots also paid a visit to the riot affected areas. Speaking to the press he said that a judicial enquiry into the condition is not needed as the police have taken necessary steps.

Further he said that government is contemplating of compensating the loss occurred during the bundh through the organizations who called for the bundh adding that the decision will be taken after discussion with the chief minister and deputy chief minister.

The state is also planning to ban certain organization, said Prakash. He also opined that the so called moralists should not take law into hand, but must inform the police.

The government is planning to provide compensation to the families of those who died in the riots and also towards the treatment of those who are seriously injured.

Oct 9: As the curfew relaxation deadline drew to a close, people were desperately went on hunting for provisions. Stocks in shops are depleting. There have been complaints of hoarding and profiteering heard from the residents.


Citizens rushing to buy whatever they could

In the meantime, state home minister M P Prakash has already arrived and is now visiting riot-affected areas in Ullal. There are reports of more state-level and union-level leaders landing in Mangalore. But full details are not immediately available as the mediapersons have to keep tabs on movements of VIPs in different corners.


Security forces all over 

Security forces are keeping guard everywhere. This city perhaps has not seen such disturbance-related security arrangements anytime in the past.

Many KSRTC buses to suburban areas like Vittal and Dharmasthala were seen operating while the curfew was lifted. Obviously they might gone out of the curfew territory by the time the deadline ended.
