New Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS): A painting exhibition here has generated Rs.60,000 for Jammu and Kashmir flood victims and the money would be sent to the prime minister's relief fund, organisers said Tuesday.

A total of 50 children from different parts of the capital participated in "Colour for Cause" to generate money from the sales of their paintings, depicting their desires and dreams as well as scenes of flood-affected areas, to contribute to the relief fund.

"The exhibition got very good response from the people of Delhi. 40 people bought these paintings and Rs.60,000 was collected, which will be now sent to PM's relief fund," said a statement.

Fourteen-year-old Rajesh, a flute seller in Lajpat Nagar Market was excited that his painting was sold and the money would be used for something meaningful.

"I never thought the people will be so responsive. I know the amount may not be that big. But I am confident if each child in India gives Rs.5 from his pocket money, it may be crores of rupees," he said.

The exhibition was organised by Sapno ki Duniya, a centre run by NGO Childhood Enhancement Through Training and Action (CHETNA), at Arpana Art gallery in Siri Fort Institutional area.

"This exhibition and support from people have really boosted the morale of children. The collected money will soon be deposited in PM relief fund as per children's wish," said CHETNA director Sanjay Gupta.
