Saradha scam: NIA probe in Jamat funding

By Santosh Mishra
Kolkata/New Delhi Oct 2. The NDA government has deployed its elite National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe in multi-crore Saradha scam. The high-level inquiry is expected to unearth link between Trinamool Congress lawmaker Ahmed Hassan Imran and Jamat-e-Islami funding.

Imran has been allegedly funding Saradha money to the Jamaat-e-Islami to cause disruptions in Bangladesh. Last week, Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali had filed a formal complaint to the Indian authorities regarding this.

Talking to the reporters, Home Minister Rajnath singh said: “Law will take its own course. The investigation has started and we will not interfere with it. A central agency is probing the allegations.”

It has been alleged that Ahmed Hassan Imran was actually a senior Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) leader working from Kolkata. The organisation was banned for its anti-India activities. Imran is now a senior TMC leader holding Rajya Sabha membership.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress has defended its minority leader. The party claimed that there is a strong lobby active in spreading motivated propaganda against them.

Surprisingly, there is no word from BJP state unit on this hot issue.
