New Zealand PM announces new cabinet

Wellington, Oct 6 (IANS): New Zealand Prime Minister John Key Monday announced his cabinet as the new government begins its third term.

Key has transferred the responsibility for the Government Communications Security Bureau and the Security Intelligence Service to Attorney-General Chris Finlayson, New Zealand Herald reported.

The government has emphasised its focus on national security, the intelligence and housing sectors by restructuring their portfolios.

"I will continue to be responsible for leading the national security system, including policy settings and the legislative framework," Key said.

Key and his National party achieved a unique third-term feat of increasing its vote count, rising to 48.06 percent from 47.31 percent in 2011

The party won 61 of the 121 seats in New Zealand's parliament, up from 59 in 2011.

Polls were held in New Zealand Sep 20.
