Mangalore: SDM College hosts seminar on 'Measures for Quality Enhancement'

Mangalore, Oct 9: Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) College of Business Management Studies and SDM PG Centre for Management Studies and Research organised a National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) sponsored national level seminar on 'Measures for Quality Enhancement and Sustenance in Higher Education' here on Thursday October 9 at SDM college, Mangalore.

Professor K Byrappa, vice chancellor of Mangalore University inaugurated the seminar and also released the souvenir on this occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Byrappa in his inaugural speech said, "Mangalore and South Canara is known as the educational hub and Mangalore University is pleased with such institutions like SDM, St Aloysius and other colleges. These institutions bring honour to us. To become a great institution they require a good teachers. Teachers should give good quality education to the students."

"Teaching and researching is the two main integral part of the PG studies. There were time when teachers were consuming more time in dictating notes, writing on the black board. But now everything has changed. Students can take down the notes from the projectors and can collect it from the internet. Utilization of technology is very much needed in the present scenario. Institutions should not teach whatever is there in the books, they should provide knowledge about the outside world." he said

"Winning and achieving something is not great, but maintaining it for the long period is great. Support from the parents and from the media helps the institution to grow and along with them the institution should also have quality education providing teachers." he added

Dr Sandeep Shastri in his key note address briefed the statistics regarding the education systems, students and the institutions. "634 plus degree awarding institutions, 20,000 plus affiliated colleges, 4 lacs formally full time appointed teachers and 10 million students have registered for higher education across the country." he said

"There should be quality defining process in institutions. You should do that job which you like the most. Teachers should connect with their students and inspire them. This way students get quality education. The class should be balanced, teacher and as well as students should get chance to speak on the topic." he added

Dr A Senthil Kumaran, principal counsellor and Head education excellence CII Institute Bangalore, Dr B Yashovarma, secretary of SDM Educational Society Ujire, Dr Devaraj K director of SDM PG centre, Smitha M seminar co ordinator, Aruna P Kamath, principal of SDM college and others were also present on the occasion.
