Narendra Modi pays tribute at Yad Vashem during Israel visit

Daijiworld Media Network - Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Feb 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited the Yad Vashem World Holocaust Remembrance Centre in Jerusalem, where he laid a wreath in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu and Yad Vashem Chairman Dani Dayan during the solemn ceremony at the memorial and museum, which documents and commemorates the atrocities of the Holocaust.

During the visit, Modi toured the Book of Names installation, which preserves the names of 4.8 million Jewish victims, and participated in a memorial observance at the Hall of Remembrance. He also signed the guest book at the site.

This marks Modi’s second visit to Yad Vashem, having previously paid homage at the memorial in July 2017 during his earlier trip to Israel, when he was also accompanied by Netanyahu.

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, said the Prime Minister’s visit honoured the memory of Holocaust victims and reaffirmed a shared commitment to peace and human dignity. He described the memorial as a powerful reminder of the brutality of the past and the global resolve to stand against injustice.

Prime Minister Modi is currently on a two-day State Visit to Israel. He received a ceremonial welcome from Netanyahu in Tel Aviv on Wednesday and later addressed a special plenary session of the Knesset in Jerusalem — becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Israeli Parliament.
