Mangalore, Oct 25: The National Highway Authority of India officials with the assistance of Mangalore taluk's tahsildar got an illegal commercial structure situated by the national highway 17 opposite the Karnataka Polytechnic on Kadri Hills on Wednesday, October 25 afternoon.

The structure, located next to a petrol pump and said to be in the name of one Dulcine D'Souza,  which had a vehicle service station functioning in it, was reportedly erected over 10 years ago. The first notice to remove it was served in February 1997 and thereafter a legal battle was on. In  August 2005, the NHAI served a final notice.

The structure located on a 10-cents land was in violation of the highway code forbidding structures within 30 metres of the highway, said sources.
