Manama, Nov 17 (IANS): The Bahrain government has approved a memorandum to support UN efforts in the fight against the deadly Ebola virus, which has claimed over 5,100 lives this year.
"We are contributing to the UN Special Fund for the fight against Ebola, aiming in particular to provide treatment to those infected with the Ebola virus," said Minister of State for Information Affairs Sameera Rajab.
"I am not sure of the exact figure that was donated, but it was approximately $1 million," the Gulf Daily News reported.
According to the latest World Health Organisation (WHO) statistics, there have been more than 14,000 reported Ebola cases -- largely confined to the worst-hit nations of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.
