Jaipur, Dec 1 (IANS): To mark World AIDS Day on Dec 1 and create awareness about HIV-AIDS, over 200 bikers participated in a 'Bikeathon' campaign over the weekend.
According to the organisers, the purpose of the event was to spread awareness about HIV-AIDS and to stop discrimination against HIV positive people.
Organised by NGO Rays- the event 'Aasha ki ek kiran Bikeathon', got support from more than 200 enthusiastic motorcyclists.
"This is the third edition of 'Bikeathon.' Curtailment of HIV is WHO's (World Health Organisation) target and theme till 2015 and we will leave no stone unturned in playing our part to spread awareness and provide HIV patients with a good and healthy life," said Gurinder Virk, president and co-founder of Rays.
The NGO 'Rays - Asha ki ek kiran' was established in Jaipur in Jan 2010. The first home under the NGO was started in July 2010 with the mission of providing core education and better living to HIV children.
Initially, the NGO started with just three children but with the passage of time the number has increased to 57.
