Heavy snowfall closes highways, airport in China


Beijing, Dec 10 (IANS): Heavy snowfall led to six highways and an airport being shut down Wednesday in northeast China's Liaoning province.

Taoxian International Airport in the provincial capital of Shenyang closed at 11.20 a.m. and is expected to reopen at 2 p.m. More than 20 flights were delayed and hundreds of passengers were left stranded, Xinuha reported.

Four other highways in the province were also partially closed due to accessibility issues.

The northern port city of Tianjin also saw its first snow storm of the winter. Six highways in the city were closed Wednesday.
