Daughter of senior AI official travels in bunk meant for pilots

New Delhi, Dec 27 (PTI): In an alleged violation of aviation safety norms, a daughter of a senior Air India executive travelled in the bunk which is only meant for resting of flight crew members as per the DGCA norms, during one of the airline's flight to Newark recently.

K V J Rao, a union leader and former Air India cabin crew, has also alleged in his complaint, lodged with the secretary in the civil aviation ministry V Somasundaran (rpt V Somasundaran) that a first class passenger was forced to sit in the executive class on one of the national carrier's flight to Delhi from Frankfurt to accommodate a senior bureaucrat last month.

According to Rao, the daughter of one senior Air India pilot was first allowed to sit on the jump seat and then rest in the bunk during the 14-hour long flight to Newark from Mumbai on December 13.

A jump seat in the aircraft is meant for non-operating staff.

"For take off, rest and landing she was illegally allowed to sit in the cabin crew horizontal rest area (bunk) by the commander. Immediately after the flight took off, the First Officer of the flight was asked to relax in the vertical seat (jump seat) and denied his horizontal rest in the bunk beds. When the second set of cockpit crew went to rest she was then moved to the cabin crew rest area," Rao said in his complaint.

When contacted, Air India Spokesperson refused to comment on the issue, while Somasundaran (rpt Somasundaran) said he was not aware of any such complaint.

But as per "Indian rules" nothing is going to happen to utive or his daughter.
We must remember she had a tripe of a life time. In India till accident happen, its not crime. When accident happen then only it is a Crime,
Power and Privilege goes together .These things are not Shame in India.
These people write Rules but not following, but we read the rules and must follow.
Lets go back to our work, its normal in India because many of utive once they get power they forget that they are working there but they are doing like their own property.
Good Luck to utive and his daughter.

After Independence Indian leaders try to change the name of buildings, Airports built by British (Churchgate, Victoria Terminal, Santacruz airport etc) but forgot to change the rules and they are following what British did i.e. No jail always bail. Now let the people complain about this case and the responsible person will give statement that he don't have any knowledge of this case and he will tell I will investigate and no result. They are only fooling the citizens of India.

The national airline is being treated as their father's property by the ministers. I was hoping that at least this government would do something so that Air India returns to its halcyon days. But the first hint that this would not happen came when Ashok Gajapathi Raju was appointed the Civil Aviation Minister. He is a bull in a china shop. I have lost all hopes - I am afraid nothing is going to change as the ministers cannot have their way if Air India is handled by professional or competent managers. The ministers will ensure that Air India remains this way as they can bend the rules to benefit them, their families and friends. If this government wants Air India to return to its grand old days, it certainly can. But the 'good governance' that was so brazenly promised during the election campaign is nowhere to be seen or found. All the promises have vanished into thin air.

what else you can expect from the current govt who is busy in appeasing rss and sangh parivar bosses. Our feku PM is only a chamcha and cannot do anything unless he gets green signal from rss. it is shame for us to have such a govt. i am sure people from J&K and Jharkand will soon realise their mistake, but they have no time to realise.

Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati has opposed to the proposal of privatizing Air India, because our MLA/MP /Staff and their families thinking that it is not national property but it is their property and they can utilize as per their benefit on tax payers money. Even in the modern world all the documents are kept by filming . These people wants only physical documents so that these people are caught in any corruption they can burn or destroy the documents…… Finally we the common people are suffering because of these people

Sack the to set an example. AI is the most worst airline in the world. Who knows perhaps some Airhostess had to spend extra hours to sing her a 'lori' to put her to sleep.

For sure he is not. Ok lets say he is only 10th std,, the qualification is anytime better than the 5th std educated Italian barmaid at a greek restaurant Antanio Maino Khan. When you are okay with barmaids running the nation , then I think this guy too would be twice as okay.
