Gandhi's name, image on beer bottle - petition filed against liquor firm

HYDERABAD, Jan 4(TOI): An advocate has filed a petition against New England Brewing Company in Rangareddy court accusing the firm of insulting Mahatma Gandhi by printing his images on their liquor bottles.

Advocate Janardhan Reddy said he filed the petition in the XI Metropolitan Magistrate court and the court was yet to taken a decision on the petition.

The beer brand in question is called "Gandhi-Bot", and the name was well-publicized despite many Indians living in the United States protesting against it.

The petitioner requested the court to summon the company's representatives as per section 3 (Punishment of offences committed beyond, but which by law may be tried within India) of IPC for misusing the image of the Father of Nation.

I will not drink Whisky/Beer/Wine that has Gandhi's image on the bottle.
Instead I will retain that NOTE that has Gandhi's image.
Why to use his image on LIQUOR that he disliked most?
We like that is a different thing. It is not easy to live like Gandhiji.

Only we, south East Asians take offence to religious satirical movies. Hollywood over the years has produced many a blasphemous movie on Christianity and none of them were banned, nor there’s been any public uproar/protest against them. In the west, they very well understand that the movies are made with the sole intention of raking in the moolah and stirring the religious emotions of public to this effect is the oldest trick in the trade and we Indians fall prey to it time and again. As for George Bush and his cat, well the cat was named after El Indio, the football player who played for Texas Rangers, owned by Bush and there was some protest in India’s high IQ state of Kerala (not my opinion!) regarding this. But India the cat remained India until she breathed her last and so did my dog Hitler!

What are blaming Aamir Khan for ? He’s just a paid actor, not producer/director/dialogue writer of this film and if I’m not mistaken, they all (except Khan!) are Hindus. Honestly, I've not watched this film, but going by the media reports, they’ve more than achieved their targets monetarily , which is an all time high in the history of Indian cinema with the time tested formula: More the controversy, more the money, especially in Indian context.

I would not know that. All I know is Feroze Khan husband of Indira Priyadarshini changed his surname to 'Gandhi' by submitting a sworn affidavit in the court and hence his descendents inherited this fancy surname 'GAndhi' for vested interests.
