US concerned over rising India Pakistan tension

Washington, Jan 6 (IANS): The US Monday expressed concern over rising India-Pakistan tensions and the exchange of fire along the working boundary, which claimed four Pakistani civilian lives, Geo News reported Tuesday.

Washington encourages Islamabad and New Delhi to engage in a dialogue. “We certainly remain concerned and watch over tensions along the border. We encourage dialogue between the (two) countries,” State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said.

When her attention was drawn to the reports of four Pakistanis deaths in Indian fire in Sialkot sectors, the spokesperson said she did not have any confirmation but added the US would obviously sympathise with families on loss of any lives. “Our hearts will go out to the families” for any lives lost.

In response to another question, the spokesperson noted that Washington has been supporting dialogue between Islamabad and New Delhi. There have been some steps in the past and positive exchanges over the years but “obviously more work needs to be done.”

On US-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue, she said the two sides work on a range of issues including counter-terrorism and security issues.

Both Pakistan and India have come closer quiet frequently in the past but I feel there's an unknown force behind which wants both the countries to hold guns against each other. I am not sure who that is but certainly this has helped foreign defence companies make huge profits thanks to an insatiable quench for arms by these 2 nations.

It is very well known since the time of independence that USA is a staunch supporter of Pakistan and gives regular aid to them. Inspite of Obama being invited to be the chief guest at Indias RD celebrations the US has again given aid to pakistan. Its high time the Indian govt realised their mistake and cancel the invitation. Also , dut to his expected arrival in India tensions are mounting within as well as on the borders. Think deeply my countrymen.... arent we idiots ???

    Philip Serrao,
Agree with you but I would like to add that the US and Pak are not natural allies but the US partners with Pak only for their own selfish strategic reasons.
Back in the past in the days of the cold war it was because India was a close ally of the US's enemy (in the past) - the Soviet Union. Hence they allied with Pak just to have some presence in the sub-continent and to take on Russia who had a presence in Afghanistan under the Najeeb govt.
Now the US is forced to ally with Pak due to the Al Qaeda and the Taliban who are operating against the US from the Afghan-Pak border areas.
The US does not want to be seen by Pakistan as being close to India fearing that they if they did this they will not get the support of the Pak govt and army in their war against Al Qaeda and the Taliban.
However, have no doubt that the US do not trust Pakistan but are with them only for their own strategic reasons. Proof of this is when the US covertly entered the Pakistani city of Abbottabad and eliminated OBL without giving any prior information to the Pak govt.
