Washed utensils in hotel 15 years back, reveals Smriti Irani

New Delhi, Jan 7, IANS: Stressing the dignity of labour, Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani Tuesday told a conference of state education ministers here that she had washed utensils 15 years back at a hotel in Mumbai.

She referred to Prime Minister's Narendra Modi's emphasis on giving importance to skills and said no one should feel inferior on being a plumber or a mechanic.

"Our credit framework empahsises this that if you want to become a plumber, carpenter or a mechanic, there is no shame in this. Being a minister, I feel proud that nearly 15 years ago, I have washed utensils at a Mumbai hotel. This does not bother because this county is a country of aspirations," she said.

Referring to the 'Make in India' initiative, she said that industry was keen that a "skilled India" should be built first.

"If we have to have a skilled India, dignity of labour is an important aspect. And the labour also gets the dignity when the society gives it," she said.

Smriti Irani is a pathological liar. She must have done so, while part of a soap opera.

Secondly, washing utensils is not a skilled job for a commercial enterprise. This job is actually considered the most unskilled job in hospitality industry.

She is undoubtedly the worst, incompetent minister in Pseudo-patriotic Chaiwala's cabinet.

So much (w)ill power that instead of improving the standard / infrastructure of existing IITs she wants to increase the number of IITs to such an extent that this would degrade the importance of an IIT student comparable with a normal student. I think she is having the mindset that increasing the number is equivalent to improving the quality of education. For time being until she becomes mature enough she can adopt policies of her colleague MP Saakhsi Maharaj.

The maturity of a nation is indicated in the way they treat children & women.
men - men, abusive comments - OK
Women - men, abusive comments - not OK, but not uncommon.
Men - women - abusive, slighting, filthy comments - not OK.

Out of momentary anger, the person who is hurt by the woman, may call her names, but they still remain private, one time.

one 'non indian' looking at the verbiage of comments in this site said, 'no wonder there are sexual offences in holy india, the choice of words they use against women are almost a rape'. In physical Rape act, they just translate the aggression they have in thoughts and words. Women must be punished and as much as possible.

The words people are using in this forum for Ms. Irani, Mrs. Gandhi - almost confirm what I heard above.

Please use your words with consideration, lest you be called one of those.

what about series of racial riots occuring in usa just months back where number of innocent black people were killed by usa police man repeatedly bcoz of skin color?.

rapes and racial riots are carried by sick people with evil minds who are there from usa ti eu to india to africa.

With her comments she proved she is 'anguta chaap'. BJP has a very good team who will certainly develop India. Don't ask me in which field. They have already proved it by sticking to 'ghar vaapasi', a foolish act. In Rajasthan education qualification of 23 BJP MLAs and 2 MPs is below 10th standard. Those who voted BJP, wait and watch, if they do development like this, they will vanish without any ones effort to destroy them. Good luck feku supporters.

There are crores of people in India who have come up from nowhere, from positions like cleaners, sweepers etc. There is no need to publicise this. If they want they can publish a photo of PM as tea vendor and HRD Minister as dish washer in a hotel. That will be good publicity for Dignity of Labour.

    Jossey,
In my opinion your observation is 100% correct. She is trying to get public sympathy in the hope of gaining popularity.
It worked for Modi but in her case it is going to backfire. Highly qualified Vice-Chancellors and Deans of some of the prestigious universities and Educational institutions in India might be tearing the hair on their head in frustration at having a pathetically qualified Smriti as HRD Minister.

In DW column, some time back, one person had written, when his friend went for PHD (Corporation Finance) admission in Mumbai University, he was asked by the PHD Guide, how many first class he had to his credit. When he said one in SSLC, the Guide laughed and told him, he did not ask first class in KG, but in M.Com. and M.Phil. Such is the standard of Deans, Head of University Depts and Vice Chancellors. I do not require to write more here.

Parliament is not for plate washers, watchmen's,tea sellers, rapists of the past but for visionaries and educated people who can formulate plans and design a path of progress.

These cheapos play dirty politics and anyone who is willing to compromise is elevated to this post.

What is her achievement , as HRD minister what is her vision of this country. I feel pained when thousands of youngsters ( highly educated people) losing their jobs in companies like TCS , this useless lady who do not even passed class 12 properly is ruling us.

This system must go , find leaders with education and leadership. There are lot of people out there.

15 years ago, or when people started work, everyone has done ordinary jobs, why flaunt them when you become a celebrity? To create sympathy or sensation?

Ordinary people without 'connection' have to do jobs below their education / capability level - it applies to all.

Good revelation. Our Ministers are public servants. They should not not only show their humble beginning but should remain humble also. Those who have seen depth and breadth of difficulties and have overcome the same in a RIGHTEOUS WAY are good asset to the society. (Gandhiji, Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela are examples)They should improve the society.

Good gentle comments Valerian but don't forget to also mention the following :
They should also be truthful and not lie on their election nomination forms about their educational qualifications. Later on they should not fool the public by terming their 4-5 day program as a degree from Yale University.
They should also not distribute sarees to the women of Amethi after losing the elections to attempt to buy voters for the next time.
