Mangalore, Jan 31: At a press meet of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) held here on Tuesday January 30, DSS leader P Keshav alleged that the government is not doing enough for the betterment of the dalits.
The land exclusively allotted for SC/STs on the outskirts of the city at Derebail, under the supervision deputy commissioner, has been hugely occupied by other people. This issue would be brought to the revenue minister’s notice by a delegation of dalits in the first week of February, he said.
He further said that the government is using the scheme of legalizing land, as an issue to gain publicity. Most of the dalits are denied of land stating ‘legal reasons’, even though the scheme had come into effect in 1999.
Keshav also pointed out that the chief minister and his deputy’s visits to dalits houses is only a publicity gimmick
Present at the press meet were Rohit ullal, Anand Haleyangady, Monappa Salian and Sundar Naik of DSS.
