Bengaluru: Chain snatcher trying to flee shot at, two thieves arrested

Bengaluru, Mar 18: A chain snatcher, who tried to flee from policemen who were chasing him, was shot at and injured. He was arrested and admitted into Victoria hospital thereafter, where he is recovering

Irfan, a resident of Goripalya in Mysore Road here had snatched chain from the neck of a lady at around 8.30 pm on Monday March 16 at 6th cross, Byatarayanapura here. Irfan and his accomplice, Basha, suddenly approached Shivakumari, working for a private firm, who was walking towards her house in Hosaguddadahalli, and snatched a 20 grams chain from her neck.

When the two fled, Shivakumari raised an alarm. The locals chased the thieves and could catch hold of Irfan, who was thoroughly beaten up by the crowd. Police constable, Ramesh, who came there, was taking Irfan in an auto rickshaw to police station, when the thief suddenly snatched out a knife from his pocket, attacked Ramesh near Sunni Chowk, and tried to escape, the police said.

Ramesh immediately conveyed information to police station over walkie-talkie. Police inspector, Satyanarayana, and some other policemen, who came to know the location, went to the spot, identified the thief, and asked him to surrender. When the thief refused, and tried to attack with his knife and ran away, he was shot at in the right leg. The thief collapsed on the road, it is said.

Based on information provided by Irfan, Basha was arrested and a 20 grams chain was recovered. Both of them have several chain snatching cases in various police stations in the city, it is gathered.

    Next budget 100crore rupees will be allotted for paying compensation for victims belongs to eligible minority victim(offenders) of police shootout and free legal support will be provided. Bharat matha ki Jai.
