Kundapur: Work on Maravanthe-Padukone bridge gathers momentum

Kundapur, Apr 5: The decades old demand for the Maravanthe–Padukone bridge is set to become reality. The work on the bridge has begun and it has picked up speed. The work of filling the lake with mud for construction of pillars is completed and temporary connection is obtained between Paravanthe and Padukone.

The demand for the bridge is not recent. Several protests were held over the years demanding the construction of the bridge. Many appeals were also sent to the government and protests were also held. But only promises were heard so far. The dream is being fulfilled at last. The work on the 90 m bridge at a cost of Rs 7 seven crore is on.

The bridge will connect Maravanthe Maharaja Swamy temple to Padukone. Transport from Maravanthe bridge to Padukone will be easy. People in Padukone had to depend on small boats to go to Maravanthe or highway. School children had to face hardships. It was a problem to take patients to the hospital in emergencies. People had to travel 10 km to reach the highway. Going to the Taluk office also was tedious. There were no frequent buses and people had to spend a lot of money on hiring vehicles to buy grocery. All these problems will be solved soon.

The bridge is being constructed after the uninterrupted struggle of MLA K Gopala Poojary. If everything goes on well, the bridge will be ready by this time next year. People may say good bye to the small boats and naturally the communication and relationship between the two villages will be strengthened. There is joy among the people of both the villages because of this. The bridge will also be conducive to the development of agriculture in Padukone and Hadavu.

The contract has been taken up by contractor Philip D’Costa Koni. The Kundapur-Kodi bridge is already completed and there are signs of completing this bridge soon too.

There is hope that tourism will also improve after construction of the bridge.

Hello my dear contractor! Hope you will not discontinue the bridge work during monsoon. Long awaited dream of Padukone and onward residents dream should not be shattered looking at the halt of bridge construction work during coming monsoon. Continuous work will have high hopes in the minds of neighborhood people.
    Thank you dear.

I'm just concerned about the peoples living there in Trassi, Athikone and Padukone. Already they have built a dam to that river which is no use and every year flooding.

I am surprised the way people comment on the mud filling, is it because they are happy to see their names appear on your portal or they lack basic engineering knowledge. Primarily how do you expect the contractor to move his heavy machinery to do the piling work to erect pillars which need to come right from the solid ground surface of the river bed, if he he does not fill and block the river and create a temporary mud road.Once the pillars are erected then he need to join between them with recommended thickness of steel rods to make a concrete bed which becomes the surface for vehicular movement(road). There will be a clearance of minimum 12 feet from the normal water level in order to let a free flow of water and also a space to pass some what normal size fishermen boats ect. Once this is done the temporary mud filling to create the road what you see now will be taken away. Hope this is clear in laymans language. Please don't curse the contractor and on his integrity instead pray that his money may be released on time by the Government through all praise worthy local MLA.

Thanks to MLA Gopal Poojary for making the dream of people with word he has given for development. mangalore requires such type of leader where work moves fast. Our railway line from udipi to mangalore central should be double by now,if such leader take the lead the work can be done with double track and slowly the work can move upto madagoan goa.

I appreciate the civic hygiene of the people of Padukone. I did not see the usual filth of plastic, empty bottles, paper etc in the river. The river looked clean and the waters were clear. great job Padukonites.

It seems this bride is made from mud only. For sure it will not withstand during heavy rains and create floods and havoc to Athikone peoples. Not good to block Sauparnika river as its both end meets Arabian sea. If so then people living there will curse contractor Philip D'Casta in their local language

This is not the final one, mud is for construction of pillars, on top of pillars actual surface(concrete) will be added.
