Houston, Apr 4: Indian-born fashion designer Anand Jon, charged in March 2007 with multiple counts of rape, has been released from an immigration court.
Anand Jon, who was arrested on multiple charges of sexual assault, was freed on Monday, according to media reports.
He was being held in lieu of $1.3 million bail, but attorney Ronald Richards was able to win his client's freedom after claiming that a detention hold on him by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency was improper, they said.
His attorney had retained the law offices of Jaehoh Suh to represent Jon in connection with the immigration detainer.
" Suh successfully convinced the government to terminate all immigration proceedings and Jon was released from custody at approximately 8.30 pm (Monday)," Richards was quoted as saying.
Jon will be appearing in person in Division One of Beverly Hills Superior Court on Wednesday.
