Hyderabad, Apr 6: National badminton coach Pullela Gopichand is facing revolt from India's senior badminton players - national champion Chetan Anand and top doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Shruti Kurien.

The trio has boycotted the national camp in Hyderabad because of differences with Gopichand.

"I think we have very genuine reasons. It is not that we are against the training or the camps. We have always attended camps and had no problems with them when Vimal Kumar Sir was the coach," said Jwala Gutta.

The three players had boycotted the camp last year as well. Chetan and Jwala are now training with SM Arif, who was incidentally Gopi's coach for much of his playing career.

"A lot of times there are only one or two coaches in the camps and it is important that each player is keenly monitored in match situations for them to improve. Is this being done? I have my own doubts," said SM Arif, former national coach.

"I really don't think it is really a fair statement because if any of the players who have come to the camp were to say it, I would have even considered it," said Pullela Gopichand, National Badminton Coach.

After India's abysmal performance in the European circuit in March, the Badminton Association forbid players from playing in international tournaments for the next three months and told them to instead, attend Gopi's camp.

The seniors argue non-participation would affect their ranking.

Chetan, Jwala and Shruti say they are willing to travel to the tournaments by spending money from their pocket. Privately BAI bosses say Jwala and Shruti are past their prime and should make way for younger players.
