Mangalore, April 6: The much-awaited Mangalore-Hassan passenger train service would commence before the monsoons next month.

The much-awaited Mangalore-Hassan passenger train service would commence before the monsoons next month, D V Sadananda Gowda, Member of Parliament and BJP state unit president said.

The Commissioner for Railway Safety (CRS), Pranab Kumar Sen would be visiting Mangalore on April 10 and 11 to inspect the track between Subramanya and Sakleshpur and would submit a report to the Railway ministry in a week, Gowda told reporters in Mangalore on Friday.

The delay in laying the track between Subramanya and Sakleshpur was mainly due to the landslides near Donigal and Siribagilu areas on the Ghat section, he added.

Fourteen landslides occured in the Ghat section last year and precautionary measures have been taken to check such natural calamities, he said. Replying to a question, he said there is no question of the state going in for assembly elections at this juncture.

"If it (elections) is inevitable, as a national party, we are ready to face it", he added.

To another query, he denied having received any resignation letter from Tourism and Infrastructure Development minister, Sriramulu.
