Mangaluru, May 25: Chirdren rights activists and parents association conducted a protest to take action against the schools which have not implemented the guidelines given by the state government regarding the rights of children in front of zilla panchayath office here on May 25.

Speaking at the occasion Dinesh Hegde Ulepady, president, children rights activists and parents association said "We are in democracy and it is sad that we had to protest here today. After independence governments have neglected the education of citizens. Till 2009 governments said that providing education is parents responsibility. Politicians make money, we pay tax and education is parents responsibility. Our constitution says government should educate each and every citizen until the age of 14. We had to go to court and supreme court had to interview and direct the government to educate the citizens. For any nation to develop education is very important. The citizens should be educated for a nation to develop.

"Governments are sold to capitalists. When these governments are freed from these capitalist nation can go forward. Big educational institutions say they are doing social work but the reality is they are removing the rights of children. When they build schools, they take donations from individuals, children and this donation goes on increasing. Each year there is hype in donation. We blame police, revenue and other government officials of being corrupt but the reason is this . They have children and they have to pay the hefty fees of the schools but their salary is not enough to pay so they take the route of corruption. We have to identify the root and then we can solve this problem. Our DDPU officials have lost their integrity. They are not taking any action against these institutions. We request the education minister to create a helpline for children and their parents so that complaints can be received. Registered complaints should be bought to the notice of higher officials that is commissioner or DC and addressed.Though there are directions that special team should be formed to keep eye on education institutes, DC has not formed it. It should be formed at the earliest. If donations are received illegally then the donations should be returned to parents and fine should be put on such institutions. Movable and immovable properties of education institutions should be investigated."

Vasudev Boloor, member Ahindha association, Nithin Kuthar, SFI district president, Prasanna Ravi, Social worker, Charan Shetty, SFI district secretary and others were present.
