Mumbai, Apr 13: A senior citizen has been admitted to hospital after she was assaulted by her husband at Bandra. The victim, identified as Vanita Krishnaswami, 61, a resident of Premguru building at Jain Mandir Marg, Bandra (W), was beaten up by her husband KN Krishnaswami, 63. Krishnaswami was later arrested.
“I received a call from my mother at around 8pm. In a cracking voice she told me that she had been beaten very badly by my father. So, I quickly went home with a constable in tow,” said Vanita’s daughter Lohita.
When Lohita got home, she saw that her mother had been beaten badly and that her father was laughing at his actions. “She received stitches for the cuts on her head, and both hands were fractured. There were wounds on legs and private parts. My father had kept knives near the telephone so that my mother could not call anyone. I wonder how she managed to call me,” she said.
Lohita said her father was an alcoholic and that she had seen him use abusive language and beat her mother since childhood. “I have seen the violence since my childhood. He used to beat my mother for silly things like not cooking food properly,” she said.
Lohita also said the police were not helpful when she approached them to register an FIR. Speaking to DNA, Vanita, who is at Bhabha Hospital said, “I am feeling much better now.”
“We have arrested Krishnaswami for assault under Section 324 of the IPC. He has been released on bail,” said API Pandurang Patil from Bandra police station. Krishnaswami worked for Hoechst, a pharmaceutical company.
