Panaji, Apr 26: Vice chancellor Prof P S Zacharias inaugurated the campus wireless network as well as the 2 Mbps Internet bandwidth on Wednesday April 25, 2007 at a special function attended by the deans, professors, teachers and administrators.

Goa University has implemented the first phase of the wireless network on its campus which is an upgradation of the present network on fibre optic backbone.

The University has a very good network connecting all the departments and administrative sections which has facilitated the users to communicate between themselves through the intranet. With the addition of wireless network, the accessibility of the Internet and Intranet has become very convenient.

The University has also acquired 2 Mbps Internet bandwidth in addition to its present 512 Mbps. This will definitely benefit the teachers and students in their academic and research activities.

Goa University is one of the very few Universities in the country where such kind of IT infrastructure is available. The university library is fully computerized and is accessible through the Internet for those interested in finding out the availability of their required books or journals or even articles.

Most of the college libraries in the state along with the Goa University library are also connected through inflibnet network. This is also a very unique feature of its kind. All these were possible because of the financial assistance by the UGC.

Goa University has also installed and implemented a courseware on a network server which is extensively being used on line on the net by most of the science departments.
