Panaji, Apr 30: The Goa police are waiting for the arrival of the nephew of a British woman who was murdered in Goa on Thursday night, to get further information about the deceased.
"We have called her nephew who is currently staying in West Bengal. More details about the lady required to solve the case could be gathered from him," deputy superintendent of police Umesh Gaonkar stated.
An Oxfordshire woman, Denise Higgins, 52, was found murdered in a rented bungalow at Margao, 33 kms away from here. Police have already arrested a 28-year-old Anand Kamble, for his alleged involvement in the offence.
"Kamble allegedly killed the women upon sudden provocation while his (Kamble's) wife and three-year-old daughter was sleeping in next room," Gaonkar said. After the offence, Kamble tried to flee from scene but could not get the train. "He was arrested at Margao railway station while he had already sent his wife and daughter to his in-laws' place in Mangalore (Karnataka) by hiring a jeep," the officer stated.
"Kamble killed her by slashing her throat with a kitchen knife," the police stated. The local court has remanded Kamble for three days' police custody, which will get over tomorrow.
Police stated that Denise, a retired civil servant, had been staying in Goa for the last one year and had shifted to this rented bunglow just six months back. Earlier, she was staying at Betalbhatim, a coastal village in South Goa, police added.
Goa police investigating the crime are now waiting for the arrival of British woman's nephew from Calcutta, who is likely to shed more light on the lady's immediate past.
"We have also informed her relatives in UK, through the Indian High Commission, who will fly down to take her body," Gaonkar said.
