Mangalore, May 11: They wished to build a lovely family even though there was poverty. But fate had some other wish.
Abdul Sattar and Khatija of Gudinabali of Jodumarga near Panemangalore Bridge who married a decade ago. As the symbol of their love and fruitful married life they were blessed with two lovely kids. Birth of these kids might have been happiest occasion in the life of this simple couple.
However, as the kids grew in age, the parents noticed that they were not like every other child of their age. Both of them were affected by polio which limited their body movements. Mahammad Aswan (8) and Mohammad Azman (7), the two blessings of God to Abdul Sattar family are dependent on their parents for everything.
The physically-challenged children cannot even move a bit without the help of someone. Even after so many years their teeth too are not properly developed. Hence they cannot consume food like other kids of their age.
Abdul Sattar who was born and brought up at Sajipa had problems with his legs right from the birth. Along with that he suffers from contstant pain in the joints and ligaments. Owing to this deformity he is not able to do any hard work. He does not even have a strong educational background to support. This is the reason that he is engaged in collecting scrap things which does not bring hbim much income.
His wife Khatija too suffers from similar health problems. Owing to some deformity in her bones, she can neither work nor walk like others. The problem is so grave that she cannot even tie bidis so that she can be an aid to her husband in earning livelihood and making both ends to meet.
This effectively means that the entire responsibility of the family is on the shoulders of Abdul Sattar alone. But even if he works day-in-and-day-out, his income would not cross more than Rs 600 per month.
The family still doesnot have a house of their own. At present the family is sheltered at Khatijas parental house at Jodumarga. With the present state of the family they do not have any hope that they will have their own house one day. The money earned by Abdul Sattar is not enough for their daily bread. Along with that he has to look after the medical expences of their kids who are never free from ailment.
'We need big amount of money for looking after these kids. But I am unable to do any hard work. Even no one is offering me a job. Hence, I have the only path, that is collecting scrap' says Abdul Sattar.
According to Mahammad, one of their neighbours, there is a plan to send these two kids to the specially-challenged children's school. But it is only a hope as their present situation does not even allow them to hope against hope.
Having no other way, the family is looking for generous people who can helpt them at least to certaint extent. Though it may not be posssible to make them trouble-free, it is quite possible that even a little help from generous people would relieve them of their worries to certain extent. The family has no future without the helping hands of ours.
Abdul Sattar believes that he would be able to meet at least a few requirments of his little kids if someone helps him even a little bit. Those who can and will to help this small family can forward their contribution to the below given address.
