Mangalore, May 30: After days of fun, frolic, camps and relaxation, children are back to school with their heavy satchels, tiffin boxes and water bottles all chirped up to listen to their teachers and get grinded by the traffic.
These splendid shots were taken by our photographer Sphoorti Ullal on Wednesday May 30, the day of reopening of schools in the city.
While some kids were eager to join new schools, anxiety was written all over the faces of little ones who were on the threshold of school life. Joy of meeting old friends coupled with a wistful wish for more holidays was writ large on the face of others. The air reverberated with the sound of excited voices exchanging summer experiences.
Some were seen trudging along half-heartedly probably coaxed by parents to attend school.
Freedom of the child is now restricted now that he or she has lots of duties to perform, such as get up early in the morning, go to school, then to tuition and finally there’s the unending homework.
New books, new uniforms, new stationery and new friends – surely the children have a lot to look forward to!
