Mangalore, Jun 2: Sea erosion has been posing constant threat to Dakshina Kannada district during the south west monsoon season. The ravages of the sea have resulted in loss of land and property, but no substantial preventive measures have been taken by the government.
Like every year, this time too sea erosion poses a grave threat to the residents in the 100 km stretch between Muloor Subhash Nagar and Mahalakshmi Nagar and the problems are just beginning.
Sea erosion has become a part and parcel of life for residents on the sea shore while politicians continue to make empty promises.
Muloor sea shore is the starting point of the sea erosion and since last two days the erosion has increased considerably.
Last year was the year of promises. Several ministers visited the sea shore and made promises. Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy with his deputy B S Yediyurappa and minister of fisheries Nagaraj Shetty visited the site and made promises in such a way that the gullible fishermen believed some miracle would take place but their hopes remain just hopes to this day.
Will it be any different this year? The monsoons are just beginning and once again the violent sea threatens to do away with life and property. And once again, the politicians will be all set to make umpteen promises.
