Mangalore, Jun 12: It is Tuesday, June 12. The time is about 9-30 am.
The cross road between Nantur hill to ITI leading to Yeyyadi and airport, running by the Padua High School and CODP, is water-logged, since it rained intermittently on Sunday and Monday.
The road has not seen bitumenization for over 2 years. Hence, it's all pothole-ridden.
Two-wheelers, light and heavy vehicles on the way to Yeyyadi, and those who want to avoid the traffic of the NH 17 running alongside always take recourse to this road. That has added to the wear and tear.
Pits have been dug by different agencies for various reasons. To avoid anyone falling into the pits, cut green branches have been placed as caution signs, which are hardly visible in dark or while it rains.
So on Tuesday morning, a motorcyclist showed a bit of adventure by riding very close to a pit and as the passers-by were giving shouts of caution, he landed straight into the pit.
What has happened to our city administration? Since the elections to MCC have been already overdue for a few months and with no signs or a clear indication as to when they would be held, our City Fathers (and Mothers!) seem to have developed a thick skin and have been showing in a 'could'nt-care-less' attitude.
Several humps have been created at various points, but there are no warning signs nor are they painted with mandatory parallel white stripes. A two-wheeler-rider was killed on the road because of an unscientifically-created road-hump at Mallikatta two days ago.
How many innocent lives have to be lost on the roads within the city, besides the umpteen number getting killed on the highways in the district?
Whose life is it anyway?
