The group also alleged that doctors raised a hand at the youth's parents.
Mohammed Faizal (24), a resident of Beeri in Kotekar, had left to Gulf eight months ago, but as he started suffering from a kidney ailment, he returned to his hometown about four months ago. He got admitted to Yenepoya hospital where he was advised to undergo dialysis. Accordingly, he was regularly undergoing dialysis from sometime.
However, Faizal's condition suddenly deteriorated on Monday evening and Dr Roshan who examined him asked the youth's family to arrange blood, and during course of the evening, his relatives donated four units of blood. However, by 9 pm his condition worsened and he breathed his last. His parents were informed about his death over the phone.
Faizal's parents rushed to the ICU of the hospital, but Dr Roshan was not available. His assistant Dr Prashant reportedly told them that they could get information about their son soon after Dr Roshan was back. It is alleged that though the parents insisted on seeing their son, they were not allowed to do so.
As news spread, Faizal's relatives and locals gathered at the hospital and expressed anger at the doctors and not only assaulted the doctors and the nursing staff but also damaged the hospital property, it is alleged. The group also claimed that the doctors had raised a hand at the deceased youth's parents.
A tense situation prevailed at the hospital. Ullal police arrived at the spot and dispersed the mob. Two persons were taken into custody, it is said.
Meanwhile, the doctors at the hospital said that Faizal was undergoing dialysis regularly but on Monday evening his condition deteriorated. Four units of blood were then obtained from his relatives, out of which two units were transfused, while two went unused. "In such cases, blood has to be transfused within a certain time, because of which two units were left unused, but the relatives of the patient misunderstood it," they said.
