New Delhi, Aug 22 (Agencies) : India has proof that Dawood Ibrahim, the man wanted for the 1993 blasts in Mumbai, is in Pakistan, a report in Hindustan Times said on Saturday.
The newspaper has published a recent picture of Dawood Ibrahim, 59, and reports that Indian intelligence agencies have documentary evidence that the terrorist, along with his wife and children, has been living in Karachi's Clifton Road, an upscale neighbourhood. The evidence reportedly includes a telephone bill in the name of Dawood's wife, which has their home address. Pakistan has always denied shielding the terrorist.
India reportedly intends to confront Pakistan's National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz with these documents.
Mr Aziz is to arrive on Sunday for talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval. The talks are hanging by a thread with India accusing Pakistan of unilaterally adding Kashmir to the agenda and insisting that Mr Aziz will meet with Kashmiri separatists in Delhi. Pakistan has refused to back down and says it will not be browbeaten on Kashmir.
There is an Interpol red corner notice against Dawood and his associates for their role in the blasts in 1993 across Mumbai, in which 257 people were killed. Last month, Yakub Memon, a chartered accountant found guilty of helping plan the blasts, was hanged in Nagpur amid a debate about capital punishment. Those who opposed the hanging pointed out that masterminds Tiger Memon and Dawood Ibrahim remain missing.
Dawood Ibrahim is at number 8 on a list of some 50 most wanted terrorists that India handed over to Pakistan in2011. India has submitted several dossiers that it says are proof that he has been living in Karachi for over two decades.
