Udupi, June 26: Despite protests by the locals at Nandikur, the Nagarjuna thermal power project is making a headway  to reach the final stage of generating power.

But, the locals here alleged that the company has undertaken the levelling work even though, according to them,  there is High Court stay against carrying on any work on private properties which have been acquired by the company.

Locals also blamed that, a large numbers of trees have been felled by the company to level the property. The company has not obtained permission from the forest department to cut the trees, they said.

But the company officials have denied these allegations. The officials said that the leveling work had been undertaken in the property only where there is no high court stay. The private property where there is High Court stat to carry work has been left untouched by the company, officials informed.

The company has paid enough compensation to KIADB before cutting the trees. Once the property has been purchased by the company for the purpose, the property becomes the asset of the company. Hence, there is no question of breaking the law by cutting the trees, officials explained.
