Mangaluru, Sep 3: Three teachers from the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have been picked for this year's 'best teacher' awards. They are, headmaster of government higher primary school, Kanyana, Bantwal taluk, U Devappa Naik, teacher of Balila Vidyabodhini high school, P N Bhat, and headmaster of Nandalike Lord Mahalingeshwara aided higher primary school in Karkala taluk, V K Rao.

The awards will be handed over to these three teachers at a function being organized at Ambedkar Bhavan, Bengaluru, on September 5.
Devappa Naik started to serve as teacher in 1977, and served at various schools in Puttur taluk and also Megadde school in Karkala taluk, before taking over as headmaster of Kanyana school seven years back. He has been credited with putting in efforts and getting facilities for the school like five class rooms, kitchen for hot meal programme, compound wall, theatre, microphone system, furniture, drinking water system, laying emphasis on computerization, toilets etc. There has been impressive gains both in terms of admissions and attendance of students since he took over. The school is in the centenary year of its existence.
Naik had been conferred with the most popular teacher award in 2003 and district best teacher award in 2007.
P N Bhat has been picked for the award because of his invnentions in the field of science, researches, and his creative activities. Bhat had completed primary and high school education in Vidyabodhini school, before pursuing PU and degree education at Bellare and St Philomena Puttur respectively. He completed B Ed in TMA Pai College of Education, Udupi, and MA through Mysore University. After initially working in a rural school in Kodagu district, he has been serving as science teacher at Balila school since the last 27 years. He has served as state level resource person in science and mathematics subjects, and has helped in preparing handbook for teachers. His scientific articles have appeared in dailies and some other publications.
V K Rao had won the district level best teacher award in 2013-14. He had joined Nandalike school as teacher in 1980, and has been serving as its headmaster since 2005.
In his 35 years of service, Rao has taken pains to create an interest in mathematics and science among the students, and in getting RCC building, memorial building etc for the school. His initiative in celebrating birthday of celebrated Kannada poet, Muddana, initiation of 'Kinnanna Munnanna award' in recognition of service of old students, appointment of honorary teachers in the school etc have brought him acclaim.
Rao also has been identified for his activities in social and religious fields. He has been presently serving as president of Udupi district aided school teachers association.
