Sep 21 (Hindustan Times): Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi undoing his popularity by making false promises and the Congress should be ready to fill up the space when he goes down.

"Modiji is causing more harm to himself that even if all of us get together we cannot do that to him," said Gandhi while addressing at a convention of Congress workers in Mathura.

"Keep on targeting the PM as he is bound to go downwards. We need to make sure that Congress is able to fill up the space being vacated by him," he said.

The Congress leader listed all the promises that the PM failed to keep and said he is being abused everywhere he goes.

"When Modiji came to power, he made a lot of promises. He told the farmers he will increade the minimum selling price. But farmers are committing suicide in each and every state," he said.

"He said he will bring back black money and transfer Rs 15 lakh to the account of every invidual, provide jobs to youth and promised the veterans the OROP. No promise has been fulfilled. The ex-servicemen are still enquiring about the OROP."

He also urged party workers to imbibe the culture followed by Steve Jobs' Apple and criticised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh saying the Congress is open to all opinions and everyone is allowed have different ideologies.

"Our ideology should be in everyone's heart. We may be the number four party in UP, but we are Number 1 in our ideology. If we can catch our ideology, we will be number one in the state," he said.

The convention is being organised to work out strategy for 2017 assembly elections in the state. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Congress managed to win just two seats - Rahul's Amethi and Sonia Gandhi's Rae Bareli. In the 2012 assembly polls, the party could only win 28 seats in the 403-member House.
