Mangaluru, Sep 24: Jayanth Vasudev Shetty, who has been working as the DySP of state intelligence, Mangaluru wing has been promoted as the SP in the same department. He took charge as SP- state intelligence on Wednesday, September 23.
Jayanth Shetty had joined Karnataka state police in 1981 as the sub inspector. He has worked in several places including naxal affected areas of Karkal, Udupi, Bhatkal and Ullal.
He is the recipient of president's medal, chief minister's gold medal and UN peace keeping gold medal. He was also the head of anti rowdy squad set in Mangaluru in 1995. As head of the squad, he was successful in apprehending 163 rowdies and keeping the activities of the underworld in Coastal Karnataka under control.
He had arrested three Pakistani nationals carrying gold biscuits from Pakistan to India in 1988 and recovered gold biscuits worth Rs 8 crore from them.
He had led arrests of Riaz Bhatkal who had connections with Indian Mujahiddin, Chota Shakeel accomplice Gangster Rasheed Malbari and several other criminals. He was instrumental in solving the case of theft of 5 kg gold from Chemmannur jewellers and also several other sensational cases.
