Chennai, Sep 25 (DHNS): Humans beat all odds when Lady Luck does them a favour, even if once. But when they find a favourable luck twice, then nothing like it.
The same thing happened with Swathi, a poor 17-year-old student from Musiri village in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu, who succeeded in bagging a free seat in dentistry in Dr MGR Medical University here, something she had been aiming.
Swathi seriously focussed on securing a medical or dentistry seat after scoring 85 per cent in her Plus two examination but she only get a seat in Bachelor’s course in Agriculture. Swathi compromised with the option she had thinking she would help her parents, who work as agricultural labourers, by taking up that course.
However, Swathi and her family were shocked last month when they ended up at the Anna University campus in Chennai for a counselling session when they were supposed to go Anna Arangam Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, thanks to an unclear communication from the university authorities.
But Swathi had her first bit of luck when the local people stood by her and enabled her to reach Coimbatore within a few hours to attend the counselling session.
Flexible timing
Even the agriculture university authorities had made the timing flexible for the candidate.
The second time her luck favoured after she returned to her hometown. When a private television channel aired her story and that she wanted to become a doctor or a dentist, officials at the MGR university in Chennai came forward to fulfil her dream by giving her a free seat in dentistry course on Wednesday.
“We called her and according to her wishes. We have given her a dental seat,” Jemima Jaya, public relations officer of the university said.
“She will be going to the class from Monday,” the official said adding “fees, hostel and other expenses will be borne by the university.”
According to university sources, the four-year course costs about Rs 24 lakh per student. “I am thankful to all who stood by me,” a jubilant Swathi said.
