British FTSE 100 decreases 1.17 percent


London, Sep 25 (IANS): The FTSE 100 Index, Britain's benchmark stock market gauge, late Thursday decreased by 1.17 percent (70.75 points) to 5,961.49 points.

Glencore Plc tumbled 9.62 percent after Goldman Sachs Group Inc. cut its stock price estimate, based on the outlook for commodity markets.

Glencore led the top losers of the blue chips, followed by Smiths Group (down 6.16 percent), Anglo American (5.09 percent), Old Mutual (4.27 percent) and Rolls-Royce Holdings (4.27 percent).

Randgold Resources's share price shot up by 5.51 percent, topping the gainers of the blue chips.

Fresnillo, Imperial Tobacco Group, Lloyds Banking Group and Whitbread increased by 3.41 percent, 1.94 percent, 1.22 percent and 1.11 percent respectively.
