Kasargod, Sep 28: Thieves drilled their way into a bank at Chervatthur here and decamped with gold and cash worth Rs 4 crore.
The theft occured at Chervatthur branch of Vijaya Bank, located on the first floor of a rented building near Chervatthur bus stand.
The incident came to light on Monday September 28 when the employees came to work. As the bank was closed over the weekened, it is not known when exactly the theft took place.
The room below the bank was occupied by some labourers from north India, it is said. The thieves drilled through the ceiling of the lower room and gained direct entry into the strong room of the bank, it is gathered.
As there was no CCTV camera installed inside the strong room, the identities or even the number of persons involved in the crime are not known yet.
As per initial estimates, the thieves decamped with Rs 2.95 lac in cash and some gold, totally worth Rs 4 crore.
Police and fingerprint experts along with canine squad arrived at the spot.
Hosadurg police are investigating.
Earlier this month, a major daylight robbery took place in Kudlu Service Cooperative Bank at Eriyal, wherein armed men had tied up women staff and a customer and got away with gold and cash worth crores. The police have already arrested four accused in the case.
