Mangaluru, Oct 1: Femina Miss India Afreen Vaz on Thursday October 1 announced that cancer foundation Early Detection For a Better Future (EDBF) will hold a health run on Friday October 2 at 8:30 am from City Centre Mall to create awareness on cancer especially in rural India.
Addressing a press meet here, Afreen said that state health minister U T Khader will flag-off the run. EDBF is a cancer foundation launched by Afreen Vaz, who is also medical student.
"This health run will be the our first ever fundraiser event for health camps. EDBF aims to build a strong family of volunteers that will undergo training on the importance of early detection of common diseases specific to the rural region of interest and then to go on to educate the respective rural community through creative health education camps. We aim to create an urban atmosphere for rural health movement that is friendly, fresh and energetic," she said.
The health run will start from City Center Mall and wind through Hampankatta, St Aloysius College, Jyothi Bunts Hostel, PVS, Navbharat circle and culminate at City Center Mall.
Leading doctors, personalites, students, working individuals, and journalists are supporting the event. Miss Diva Universe Noyonita Lodh may also join Aafreen Vaz to support the noble cause.
"The health education camps will start with educating rural women about breast cancer and self-detection, and emphasize on first aid training and preventing disease like dengue. Access to healthcare and awareness of early detection and prevention of diseases that one is at risk of is not choice but a right," she added.
She also lamented that there was not enough awareness on prevention of diseases in the media.
The health camps will be conducted in the rural areas of Maharashtra and Dakshina Kannada. Aafreen said said that she is a certified first aid provider and wants to get certifed as first aid trainer also.
