Udupi, Oct 4: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math Sunday October 4 inaugurated a four-day 'Go Sammelana' at Rajangana in Sri Krishna Math here.
After inaugurating the event, Pejawar Swamiji said, "The core purpose of this event is to create awareness in the society about protecting cows from slaughter and promote preservation of cow breeds. There is a need to drive away evil from the world. Everyone has the right to live, including animals. Then why not cows?” he said.
He further alleged that the government has chosen to turn a blind eye even after repeated cow slaughter incidents. "The government has been showing negligence and carelessness about Cow Protection Act. The preservation of cow is important to humanity in terms of religious, economic, hygienic as well as agricultural points of view.
He further added, "Our Constitution propogates secularism and not communalism, and so also our judiciary. Hence, our government should focus on saving the domestic animal. There is a need to work on reincarnation of ‘Kamadhenu’. The four 'Gs'- Ganga, Gita, Gayatri (Mantra) and Go (cow) are imbibed in the Indian culture. By preserving these, let us enrich our heritage."
Sunil Man Singh, director of Go Vigynana Anusandana Kendra, Nagpur said, "As many as 52,000 cows are slaughtered every day and 25,000 cows are exported to Bangladesh from here. It should not be happening in a religious and spiritual land like India. The survival of cows is a cause of concern today. Door-to-door awareness is important for nurturing cows."
Sri Vidyavallabhateertha Swamiji of Paryaya Kaniyoor Math said, "I am inspired by Guru Vidyasamudra Swamiji in doing the holy work of protecting cows. We don’t have any intention to provoke anybody but only want to sensitize people about the importance of cow protection."
Citing one of his close friends, he further said, “Cow fat is used for ice cream making and many other domestic items. It is a tragedy that beef is exported from our nation. We have become impure by such undesirable activities."
Sri Vidyavallabhatheertha Swamiji announced that he would contribute a part of his income to Neelavar and Kodavoor Goshalas.
A procession was held at Car Street with palanquins carrying Sri Krishna's idols. Religious rituals, Homa and Go puja were held on the occasion.
An exhibition of various cattle breeds and products was held at the Krishna Math premises.
Raghavendra Acharya welcomed the gathering. Sri Vidyasagarteertha Swamiji of Krishnapur Math, Sri Vishwaprasannateertha Swamiji, CMC president Yuvaraj and others were present.
