BSF seizes 15 kg heroin along Pakistan border in Punjab


Chandigarh, Oct 11 (IANS): Border Security Force (BSF) troopers seized a total of 15 kg heroin from two places along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab in the last 36 hours, a BSF spokesman said on Sunday.

The seized heroin is valued at Rs.75 crore in the international market.

BSF troopers seized six kg of the contraband near the Border Out Post (BOP) named MP Base in the Ferozepur sector, over 300 km from here, early on Sunday.

Smugglers from the Pakistan side were trying to push the packets through a plastic pipe along the barbed wire fence near the international border. A mobile phone with a Pakistani Sim card was also seized from the spot after a search on Sunday.

BSF troopers also seized nine kg heroin near Pulmoran Border Out Post in the Amritsar sector on Saturday.

The total seizure of heroin by the BSF along the Punjab border this year so far has crossed 213 kg, valued at over Rs.1,065 crore in the international market.

Heroin seizure in the Punjab sector in 2014 totalled 361 kg, the highest for any year.
