Udupi: Three days YCS convention to be held from Oct 18

Udupi, Oct 15: The first ever 3 days State Level Convention will be taking place at Diocese of Udupi, organized by the Young Student Movement, Karnataka will start on October 18, at St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, Udupi under the guidance of Fr Edwin D’souza, director, Youth Commission, Diocese of Udupi to commemorate the 50th year of the movement, established in India.



Conferring to the press associates gathered on Wednesday October 14 at a press conference organized at the Press Club Udupi, Hazel Martis, President, Ycs/Ysm Karnataka Region, spoke, “We are pleased to inform you that the Diocese of Udupi will be organizing Karnataka State-level Regional Convention of Young Students Movement (YCS/YSM) in Udupi from 18 to 20 October 2015. The Convention is organized to mark the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of this Youth Movement in India. The three days’ Regional Convention is being held for the first time in the Diocese of Udupi in St Mary’s CBSE School at Kannarpady, Udupi. Around 500 delegates are expected to participate from 14 Dioceses of Karnataka for the first two days and on the last day around 1500 delegates (both boys and girls) will be attending this mega event along with their respective animators. We extend a warm welcome to this unique convention of YSM.”

The Inaugural programme will commence with a Holy Eucharistic Celebrations on October 18 at 05.00 pm in St Mary’s CBSE School, Udupi. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop, Diocese of Mangalore, will be the main celebrant. While the homily will be delivered by Msgr. Baptist Menezes, Vicar General, Diocese of Udupi. Followed by hoisting of the YCS/YSM Flag by Fr. Fred Mascheranus, Correspondent, St. Mary’s Schools, Udupi. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi will preside over the Inaugural function. Shri Shri Lakshmivara Teertha Swamiji of Shiroor Mutt will inaugurate the convention.

On the second day, the delegates of the Regional Convention will be discussing on and deliberating upon various issues pertaining to Education Policy, Environment, Swacch Bharat campaign and also Communication, Social Mass Media and its impact on the youth of the society. There will be special talks from experts along with panel discussions during the Convention. In addition, an inter-religious dialogue and a cultural programme will be held during this Convention.

A Holy Eucharistic Celebration will take place at 7.15 am at Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi on October 20 with the main celebrant being Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop, Diocese of Udupi, followed by an Inter Religious Prayer at 09.15 am.

A huge rally will be held as a part of the concluding day, which will commence from Udupi Church to St Mary’s CBSE School at Kannarpady to create awareness about the students` Rights. K. Annamalai, Police Superintendent of Udupi district will flag off the students’ rally. Most Rev. Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore will preside over the concluding programme. Vinay Kumar Sorake, Hon`ble Urban Development Minister of Karnataka and Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA of Udupi constituency will be present as chief guests. A memorandum on ‘Student Education System’ will be submitted to the Education Minister through the chief guests on this occasion.

Fr Charles Menezes, director, international young christian students, France, Fr Edwin D’Souza, director, youth Commission, diocese of Udupi, Priyanka Noronha, president, YCS, diocese of Udupi and Sudharashan Nayak, president, YSM, diocese of Udupi were also present during the press meet.
