Mangalore, Jul 29: “Yaksha Sangita Nada Vaibhava” was jointly held by Suma Saurabha, a Kannada fortnightly newspaper and Kannada and Cultural department on July 27 in the Town hall in the city. This was a programme in which the northern and the southern style of music were assimilated and the musical instruments of both the styles like Maddale, chande are played in juxtaposition.

T D Pai in his inaugural speech stated that Dakshina Kannada is famous for its many specialities like art but '24 x 7' has become a big obstacle. However, despite this tyrant many cultural organizations like Suma Sauraba have been doing a great job and should continue along the same lines. He wished such dedicated persons and organizations a long life.

"I never thought that I would be felicitated," Narasimha Shetty, the senior artiste of the Badagutittu format of Yakshagana, exclaimed, expressing his deep happiness on receiving the felicitation on the occasion.

Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli in his speech at the felicitation said that Yakshagana is most fortunate in the sense that now there is not much difference between amateur troupes and professional troupes; this according to him augured well for any art.

Shrinivas Karkera giving his best wishes to Narasimha Shetty stated that Shetty is a multi-dimensional personality and a revered senior artiste of Yakshagana. In his opinion running a paper is a difficult task, in spite of it the very fact that the Kannada fortnightly Suma Saurabha comes regularly and M J Rao should be appreciated in this regard, he added.

Deputy director of the Kannada and culture department Rangappa, Mohan Rao, GM of Corporation Bank, Dr Devdas Rai, Dr Asha Jyoti Rai, Chandrahasa Shetty, head of Vidya Education trust, Bhuvanabhirama Udupa, editor Yugapurusha, Chidananda Kamath, Ramesh Krishna Shet and others were also present on the occasion.
