Bengaluru, Oct 19: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, Dr G Parameshwar, would be completing five years of service in that post shortly. To commemorate this occasion, 'Sarthaka Samavesha (fulfillment meet)' is being held on October 30.
As per an information, thousands of party activists, who were desirous of having a fair share in the fruit of power after their government took over the state administration about 30 months back, and are made to inordinately wait to get the posts of office bearers in corporations and boards as promised, are feeling uneasy.
Chief minister, Siddaramaiah, Parameshwar, as well as party general secretary in-charge of party affairs in the state, Digvijay Singh, are expected to take part in this convention. Therefore, these disillusioned activists have put together a team to meet these leaders and air their grievances, it is gathered.
These activists point out that over 300 names had been finalized for vacancies in over 80 corporations and boards by the chief minister and KPCC president after holding several rounds of discussions long back. Sources say that this list, which was expected to be forwarded to the department of administrative reforms and personnel for processing as soon as the chief minister gave his nod, continues to be held up at the office of Siddaramaiah's joint secretary, Shindhe Bheemasena Rao.
Process of making appointments to boards and corporations had begun a few months after Congress rose to power in Karnataka, and after about 18 months, presidents and vice presidents were posted to about 80 corporations and boards. Although the concerned then pacified the other aspirants by assuring them of making the remaining appointments in about a month, nothing moved thereafter.
The angry activists say that these appointments are being put off repeatedly on the guise of Lok Sabha election, by-election, BBMP election, Rahul's visit etc. Some of the leaders analyze that the state leadership has put these appointments on hold because of the fear that dissidence might spread like wild fire once appointments are made on account of those who fail to find their names in the list. Although the present information is that this list would be cleared after the conclusion of Dasara festival, the activists are not prepared to buy this reason. They will take on the leadership at 'Sarthaka Samavesha', sources say.
Already precious time is lost, and aspirants are losing their hopes and patience. The fact that their terms would get truncated with each passing day as assembly elections would be held in about 30 months time, has created an air of tension in their circles. It would be interesting to watch how will the state Congress leadership handle a feeling of unrest that is spreading among disgruntled cadres during the above meet.
