Udupi, Oct 25: Keshava Kumar (65), taluk panchayat member representing Haradi constituency near Brahmavar in the taluk, was killed in a road accident which occurred on national highway 66 at Saligrama near here on the evening of Saturday October 24. After a truck hit Kumar, who was riding a motor bike at the time, he fell to the road. The wheels of the truck crushed his skull, killing him instantly.
Keshava Kumar has left behind wife, three sons, and a daughter. Many have expressed anger at the haphazard way in which the widening of highway is progressing, holding the chaos created by the contractors handling this work solely responsible for this and several other accidents.
Kumar had earlier served Haradi gram panchayat in the capacity of president twice. This was the first time he had fought and won the taluk panchayat election. He was an avid activist of Congress. He had been serving the managing committee of Haradi Timmanna Nayakeshwara temple and Baikady Gandhinagar Nagabana Samiti. He was very popular because of his sincere service and soft nature.
It is gathered that his wife, Gouri, has been serving as the president of Thirthahalli gram panchayat.
A case was registered in Kota police station about the accident, and the police have been investigating.
