Mangalore, Aug 8: Rain havoc in the Udupi and DK has claimed nearly 15 lives and the loss due to rains have been estimated at Rs. 15 crore.

According to informed sources, the river Neethravati is full once it reaches the 8.3 feet mark and now it is touching 8.5 feet which is a dangerous level to reach for the river, as it then starts overflowing. In city the water has rushed into the houses, causing a great deal of discomfort and inconvenience to the people. As per latest reports nearly 10 houses is totally merged in water.

District Commissioner Maheshawar Rao stated that due to natural calamity like incessant rains, steps will be initiated to help people in distress. In Dakshina Kannada district rains have claimed 8 lives whereas in Udupi 7 lives have been lost. In coastal region, heavy rain fall is a near regular feature and as a result of damages caused, huge losses have been estimated.
