Kundapur, Aug 8: The situation is still grim in the taluk following heavy rains in the last 3 days. Though flood situation is slightly improved in Navunda, Maravante, Nada and other areas, people are still caught indoors owing to incessant rains.
Landslides, house collapses owing to heavy rains and stormy weather have created panic in the minds of people who are held up within four walls for the last 3 days. It has been raining cats and dogs in the entire taluk and people say weather has not been so hostile in the recent past.
Almost all the rivers of the taluk are flowing above the danger level which has caused uncertainty in the minds of the people. The body of the Saku (22), daughter of Babu Shetty of Koni who had been washed away in the flood waters has not yet been found. Coconut gardens have been at the receiving end in Maravante region. A number of coconut trees have been uprooted by sweeping winds. Along with that a number of houses have either been completely collapsed or partially damaged in the Gangolli region.
In Byndoor region a road to Navunda via Badakere-Konki which had been constructed under Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna is completely damaged owign to floods and is washed away. This is resulted in residents of Konki, Badakere, Chikkalli, Kalihitlu etc being isolated and having no contact with the main land. More than 50 houses of fishermen of Konki areas are inundated owing to floods in Sauparnika river. People of the area have been shifted to safer place.
