Mumbai, Aug 8: Maharastra Konkani Association held the Konkani Recognition Day and distribution of talent awards to the students at Gyan Ashram auditorium, Mahakali Caves Road, Andheri (East), on Sunday August 5.

Christian Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Vincent Mathias while delivering key note address said that the love towards mother tongue equals to motherly love. Learning multiple of languages is essential to survive in this world.  However, it is cowardice to forget his mother tongue. It amounts to disgrace to his mother.  One learns of upbringing through his mother tongue.  The nurturing of mother tongue should be inborn within us, since it has enriched our life. The learning of it should begin at home, he opined.

Fr Cyprian Lewis, parish priest of Sacred Heart Church, Andheri (East) while presiding over the programme said that education is essential for improving the economical condition.  In the modern era no yardstick exists for assessing the teaching.  There is no end for studies.  It is not possible to wind up studies since there are ample opportunities to pursue studies.  Parents should not neglect the studies of their children.  Let the parents educate the children to become worthy citizens of great India, he advised.

Well Win Industries director Pramila V Mathias, Sacred Heart Church assistant parish priest Fr Celet Nathan and others were present on the dias.

Fuddar Foundation chairman John D’Silva, singer Victor Concesso, Harry R Sequeira, vice-president G Mendonca and other dignitaries were the special invitees present.

Association convener Leo Fernandes welcomed and compered the programme.

Benedicta B Rebello delivered the introductory speech.  Past president Walter D’Souza, Celine D’Souza and Anita Mendonca honoured the guests by offering bouquets.

Honorary secretary Vincent Castelino read the list of talented students. Treasurer Ron Michael proposed vote of thanks.  Master Lenin L Fernandes sung Konkani song as part of entertainment .
